Upcoming Events

5 Aug

There are a bunch of fantastic foodie events coming up in the Fraser Valley, and I thought I’d take the time today to tell you about a few of them.

Chilliwack Fair. THIS weekend, Aug 5-7 at Chilliwack Heritage Park. It’s not really a foodie event per-se, but nothing beats fair food on a hot summer’s day!

Langley Eats Local. THIS Saturday, August 6th at Driedeger Farms in Langley from 10am – 4pm.

If I were going to be in town this weekend, I’d probably be checking it out.  Sounds like a great annual event that promotes local and sustainable food.  It’s free too, which is fantastic!

Feast of Fields. Sunday, September 11th at Krause Berry Farms from 1-5pm.

This will be the 17th year this festival has been running, which is awesome!  They also have events on Vancouver Island and in the Okanagan.  Their aim is “to highlight the connections between farmers and chefs and to increase the connections between farm folks and city folks.”  I’d never heard of it before I made a trip to Krause a few weeks ago to go berry picking, and saw it advertised.  It’s a bit on the pricey side to reserve a spot, but as their description says, “some think of it as a 40 course meal paired with wine and beer,” how could I possibly resist making sure I’ll be there?!  😉

EAT! Fraser Valley. September 16-18 at the Tradex in Abbotsford.

This is an event I’ve always wanted to attend, but the timing has never been right.  There’s wine & beer tasting, Bite of the Valley (appy sized food available for purchase), a Master Chef competition (similar to the Iron Chef TV show), as well as chocolate and cold salmon competitions.  If anyone is planning to go and would like to write a review of the event, please let me know, and I’d love to post (or link to) that here.

Fraser Valley Cork and Keg. Friday, September 30th at the Langley Events Centre from 7 – 10pm.

It’s an inaugural event, so it potentially could become a fantastic festival to showcase all the fabulous wines and beers produced in this region.   A great opportunity to sample some local libations as well as chocolate, cheese and other delicious goodies.  I’m planning to attend, and will share a review of the event afterward.

If you know of any other great food/produce events going on in the Fraser Valley in the next month, let me know in the comments!  I’ll try to make this a fairly regular feature here, and I’m sure that as I get more active with this website, there will be many more events that I’ll hear about and can feature.
